Editorials
Many people have a little story to tell about why the landfill is such a bad idea. Perhaps you get stuck behind dirty, stinking trash trucks or you've seen them leaking, or parking where they're not supposed to, or going too fast. Maybe you live close to the landfill and you notice your vernal pools aren't supporting wildlife anymore. Some people have even noticed turkey vultures roosting in their yards. These all make excellent editorials. If you are talking to someone who has a story, encourage them to write a small entry and submit it to the local papers. (Media addresses are listed on the top right of this page.)
While we are concerned about our local landfill, at the same time it is important to stay a few steps ahead and think about these problems on a state, federal, and global level. It is imperative to get more editorials about zero waste initiatives and increasing recycling and composting in our three communities. Learn more about the statewide initiative (headed up by this group) to keep the ban on new incinerators and send an editorial to the local paper and an email to the appropriate DEP representatives.
Updating and Expanding our Contact List
Many tri-community citizens receive emails and therefore get regular updates and first hand information. Unfortunately, many on our list have been left in the dark, perhaps thinking that it's all over and there's no hope left. We need to work to correct any previously collected but mis-documented contact information, and also reach out to more people who may be interested in staying in the loop.
Several people volunteered to serve as representatives for their neighborhood to try and gain updated and correct contact information of those already on our list. If you think you could take a few hours some time to walk around, send letters, or make some calls to talk to your neighbors about this landfill and get their correct contact information, it would be a great service to them and to the cause.
We also need those willing to branch out to new people who may not yet be aware of the issue. Please email Lara at info@southbridgedump.org if you are interested.
